Storyline
Age of Empires challenges players to build a civilization from a small group of hunter-gatherers into a powerful Iron Age empire. To achieve victory, players must collect resources to fund new units, structures, and more advanced technologies. Resource conservation is crucial, as no new resources are introduced during the game—once a tree is cut down, it won’t regrow. Twelve distinct civilizations are available, each with its own unique traits, including different numbers of accessible technologies and units. Every civilization offers exclusive technologies, ensuring that no single civilization has access to all the game’s possible advancements. A key aspect of the game is progressing through four historical ages: the Stone Age (Mesolithic/Paleolithic), Tool Age (Neolithic/Chalcolithic), Bronze Age, and Iron Age. Advancing to the next age is done through research at the Town Center, and each transition unlocks new technologies, weapons, and units for the player.
