Summary

Drawing inspiration from the popular PC game and powered by the engine behind the critically praised Age of Empires: Age of Kings, Age of Empires: Mythologies will deliver the ultimate portable tactical strategy experience with its polished gameplay, imaginative design, exciting multiplayer, and deep replayability. Age of Empires: Mythologies for the Nintendo DS is an engaging new turn-based strategy title that tasks players with guiding the fates of three distinct cultures in a magical world teeming with legendary heroes, fearsome creatures, and divine deities. Players will command their Egyptian, Greek, and Norse champions to triumph by building vast armies, engaging in battle, uncovering new lands, and progressing through three unique eras that unlock incredible new units, skills, and godly powers such as lightning storms, tremors, and deadly plagues to unleash upon their foes.

Storyline

Similar to the original Age of Mythology, the game features three civilizations—Greek, Egyptian, and Norse—each offering distinct units, structures, abilities, and ways to gain favor. Each civilization allows players to choose from three "major gods" at the start of a match: Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon for the Greeks; Ra, Isis, and Set for the Egyptians; and Odin, Thor, and Loki for the Norse. In addition, there are "minor gods" available each time the player progresses to a new age, with all gods providing unique technologies, bonuses, myth units, and powerful God abilities that can either harm or assist players. The game includes three base unit types—humans, heroes, and myth units, with the latter two representing legendary figures or creatures from the civilization's mythology. A rock-paper-scissors dynamic determines unit effectiveness against one another; for instance, humans perform well against heroes but struggle against myth units. Each unit also has a specific sub-type, such as heavy infantry or archers, with each excelling against particular unit types. Human units include hoplites and chariot archers, heroes feature characters like Odysseus and Ramesses, and myth units bring in legendary beings such as Cyclopes and giants. The Campaign consists of 8 scenarios across all three civilizations, each in its own separate storyline. The first campaign, set in Egypt, follows Hatshepsut and her father Thutmose as they confront Setekh, the son of Set, after investigating a series of bandit attacks near Memphis.
