Akanbe Dragon serves as a precursor to the company's enduring Super Robot Taisen series. Set on a single-screen battlefield, the game pits a team of dinosaurs against a computer-controlled group of creatures. Much like chess, players maneuver their units across the board, with each creature possessing unique movement styles and ranges—some only move diagonally, while others are limited to short steps in the cardinal directions. When two units occupy the same space, a battle ensues. Unlike the Super Robot Taisen games, these battles are fully interactive action sequences viewed from the side. Players must control their dinosaur to dodge enemy attacks and attempt to take down opponents. Each creature has distinct attributes like speed, jump height, power, and shooting ability. The environment of the battle can vary depending on the square where it takes place, offering both challenges and advantages to different units. Akanbe Dragon includes a level editor for designing custom scenarios, and a continue feature is available should you fail a scenario.
