All-Star Baseball 97 delivers a host of new features that expand on the foundation of 1996's Frank Thomas "Big Hurt" Baseball. The most significant upgrades include official licenses from Major League Baseball and the MLBPA, giving players access to 30 authentic teams, stadiums, and more than 700 real-life athletes rated based on their 1996 performances. Six game modes are available: Exhibition, Season, Playoffs, All-Star Game, Batting Practice, and Home Run Derby. The game also introduces a trade system, letting aspiring General Managers shape their rosters in pursuit of a World Series title. Play-by-play commentary is handled by the acclaimed Jon Miller of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball, while "dynamic stadium sounds" bring the ballpark to life with the calls of vendors selling peanuts and Cracker Jack. Frank Thomas contributed to the game by motion-capturing player movements to create lifelike swings and throws.
