Storyline
Set on October 31, 2001, Edward Carnby’s closest friend and partner, Charles Fiske, is discovered dead off the shores of Shadow Island, a mysterious landmass near the coast of Massachusetts. Carnby's inquiry soon leads him to Frederick Johnson, who reveals Fiske's quest for three ancient tablets said to hold immense and perilous power. Johnson begs Carnby to take Fiske's place and continue the search for the tablets. Carnby agrees, vowing to uncover the truth behind Fiske's death. Johnson introduces Edward to Aline Cedrac, a brilliant young university professor. She joins Edward in the search for the missing tablets and helps Professor Obed Morton, whom she believes to be her father. As they fly over the coastline of Shadow Island, their plane is suddenly attacked by an unknown creature. Both Edward and Aline leap from the aircraft and descend via parachute, only to be separated upon landing. Edward lands in the thick forest near a manor, while Aline lands directly on the manor's rooftop.
