Arch Rivals is a basketball video game created and released by Midway in 1989. It incorporates violence as a key gameplay element, allowing players to hit opponents and take the ball from them. The game is considered a precursor to Midway's successful arcade basketball title, NBA Jam.
Players can choose from a range of fictional teams and athletes. The games adhere to standard basketball rules, except for the increased level of permitted violence. The goal is to score more points than the opposing team. Each team fields just two players on the court, instead of the usual five players per team found in traditional basketball.
