Summary
Area 51 is the sole high-octane first-person shooter set inside the U.S. government’s most secretive and fortified military base. The U.S. Army has intercepted an emergency transmission from Area 51, where a viral outbreak has crippled the research center and triggered automated quarantine protocols, sealing all scientists and military staff inside. A small Special Forces team, led by Specialist Ethan Cole from the HAZMAT (hazardous materials) Division, is dispatched to uncover the truth. Playing as Cole, gamers will navigate through five expansive levels deep within the restricted grounds of Area 51, uncovering a mutagenic effect of the virus that manipulates the minds of its victims, as well as a hidden ancient alien settlement buried underneath the base. Armed with a wide array of both human and extraterrestrial weaponry, players must unravel shocking conspiracies, including the Roswell UFO incident and the fabricated moon landing, to unlock the mysteries of Area 51 before the viral mutagen is unleashed and permanently alters all life on the planet.
Storyline
In July 1947, an extraterrestrial spacecraft crashed near Roswell, New Mexico, in the United States. The U.S. Air Force retrieved the wreckage and transported it to Area 51 in Nevada, where the only survivor of the crash, a formidable Grey named Edgar, was captured by U.S. military forces. Eventually, the Greys initiated communication with the Illuminati, led by the enigmatic Mr. White (Phil Proctor), and formed an agreement. The Illuminati would provide the Greys with a research facility located three miles beneath Area 51, allow the base to be used as a landing site, and supply human test subjects for joint research on a mutagenic virus intended for use in a war on their home planet. In exchange, the Greys would grant the Illuminati exclusive access to their advanced technology, which the Illuminati later used to monitor the general population. The Greys and human scientists eventually created a powerful alien entity known as the "Theta," which was used to spread the virus. Many of the scientists working on the project remained unaware that the Greys and the Illuminati also planned to deploy the virus against Earth's population and take control of the planet. When Dr. Winston Cray discovered their intentions, he released the "Theta" and the mutagenic virus throughout Area 51 in an attempt to disrupt their plans. This led the military to deploy a Quick Reaction Force under the command of Major Bridges (Powers Boothe) to quarantine and contain the outbreak. HAZMAT Team Delta, the first unit sent into Area 51, was ambushed by the "Theta" creature, suffering losses before retreating further into the base. HAZMAT Team Bravo, consisting of team leader Ramirez, McCan, Crispy, and mission specialist Ethan Cole, was then dispatched to locate Delta.
