Storyline

The Frye twins are contacted by Henry Raymond, a writer of penny dreadfuls, and his young companion, Arthur Conan Doyle. They join forces to look into a string of murders across London, visiting the sites of the crimes, collecting clues, speaking with witnesses and suspects, and ultimately exposing the real culprits. The twins are later called to Buckingham Palace by Queen Victoria to solve the murder of one of her guards. It is revealed that Raymond himself faked his death and posed as a guard in order to observe the combination to the safe that holds the Queen's Sceptre of the Dove and steal it. He also planted misleading clues suggesting a bomb threat in the palace to help him escape. However, Doyle has already discovered Raymond's scheme and attempts to stop him, only to be taken hostage on the palace roof. One of the Fryes distracts Raymond while the other silently approaches and kills him, rescuing Doyle and retrieving the Sceptre. Afterward, the Fryes urge Doyle to try his own hand at writing detective stories.
