Summary
Avenger is a vertical-scrolling shooter where players pilot a plane through levels filled with enemy aircraft tanks cannons ships stationary defenses and towering boss enemies. Before each mission players can select from various weapons across three types: primary secondary and special. Primary and secondary weapons fire together and have unlimited ammo while the potent special attacks are triggered by a separate button and have limited uses. Players can mix and match any combination of the three types such as pairing a primary rocket launcher with a secondary side-firing laser pod and a special defensive shield. Power-ups appear briefly and must be collected at the right moment to boost the strength of a primary secondary or special weapon. These power-ups don't alter the weapon's type but instead increase its firepower.
Storyline
A catastrophic atomic war destroyed the largest cities on Earth and killed most of its people. Chaos took over as various military factions clashed in a brutal struggle for power. One of these groups eventually gained control of the planet, setting up a ruthless regime and harnessing cutting-edge technology for warfare. Only a solitary pilot stands a chance of freeing humanity from their grip.
