Backyard Sports is a video game franchise available on both consoles and computers. The series is most famous for featuring child-sized versions of well-known professional athletes like Albert Pujols, Paul Pierce, Barry Bonds, Tim Duncan, Clint Mathis, Kevin Garnett, Tom Brady, Alex Rodriguez, Joe Thornton, and Andy Macdonald. The Backyard Sports lineup is officially licensed by the top U.S. professional sports leagues: MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLS. The franchise includes titles such as Backyard Baseball, Backyard Basketball, Backyard Football (American football), Backyard Soccer, Backyard Hockey (ice hockey), and Backyard Skateboarding. In each game, players build a team made up of Backyard Kids and professional athletes, guiding them through a "Backyard League" season with the goal of becoming champions. Starting with Backyard Football in 1999, players have the option to create their own custom athletes. Another key feature of the games is the use of Power-Ups, which grant players special abilities. For example, "Super Dunk" lets a basketball player perform an amazing dunk from almost anywhere on the court, "Leap Frog" enables a football player to leap over the entire defensive line, and "Ice Cream Truck" momentarily distracts the opposing team.
