Batman: Return to Arkham brings together two iconic titles from the Batman: Arkham series, making their way back to modern consoles—PS4 and Xbox One—featuring enhanced visuals. Warner Bros. is remastering the 2009 release Batman: Arkham Asylum and the 2011 follow-up Batman: Arkham City, which will be included in this bundled collection alongside all related DLC content.
**Batman: Arkham Asylum** Following the Joker's attack on Gotham City Hall, Batman captures him and transports him to Arkham Asylum, where several members of the Joker's gang are temporarily held after a fire at Blackgate Prison. Suspecting the Joker allowed himself to be taken, Batman enters the asylum with him. The Joker's true intentions are revealed when Harley Quinn seizes control of the security systems, enabling the Joker to escape with the help of a corrupt guard who abducts Commissioner Gordon. The Joker threatens to detonate bombs across Gotham if anyone enters Arkham, forcing Batman to operate alone. Pursuing Quinn to the medical wing to rescue Gordon, Batman is exposed to Scarecrow's fear gas and experiences terrifying hallucinations, including visions of Gordon's death and his parents' corpses speaking to him. After defeating Scarecrow, Batman captures Quinn and rescues Gordon. The Joker then leads Batman to Bane, who has been subjected to experiments by Arkham doctor Penelope Young. The Joker frees Bane, and Batman battles him as Quinn escapes. After the fight, Batman retreats to a hidden Batcave installation on the island to replenish his gear. There, he discovers that the Joker returned to the asylum to access Young, who had been developing Titan—a more potent form of the Venom drug that enhances Bane's strength—intended to aid patients in enduring harsh treatments. Young uncovered that the Joker had been funding her research to create an army of superhuman henchmen; her refusal to hand over the formula led to the Joker's return. As Batman searches for Young, he is once again attacked by Scarecrow and exposed to the fear toxin, reliving the night of his parents' murder. After recovering, Batman destroys the Titan formula and rescues Young from Victor Zsasz. An explosion kills Young, and the Joker secures the remaining stock of Titan. **Batman: Arkham City** Set one year after *Arkham Asylum*, *Arkham City* follows the aftermath of the Joker's failed siege. Quincy Sharp, former director of Arkham, took credit for stopping the attack and was elected mayor of Gotham. Declaring both Arkham and Blackgate inadequate for housing the city's criminals, Sharp shut them down and purchased Gotham's most dangerous slums, transforming them into a massive prison known as Arkham City. The facility is overseen by psychiatrist Hugo Strange, who secretly manipulates Sharp, and guarded by the private military firm TYGER Security. Strange allows the inmates freedom as long as they don’t attempt to escape. Batman watches the situation closely, fearing it will spiral out of control. Meanwhile, the Joker is suffering from a deadly illness caused by his previous use of the Titan formula, a volatile steroid that turns users into monstrous, unstable beings. At a press event where Bruce Wayne publicly opposes Arkham City, TYGER mercenaries arrest him and lock him in the new prison. Hugo Strange reveals his knowledge of Wayne’s identity as Batman before releasing him into the criminal population. As Strange prepares to activate "Protocol 10," Wayne receives a supply drop from Alfred Pennyworth, allowing him to resume his role as Batman. He first intervenes to save Catwoman from an execution ordered by Two-Face, who seeks to gain respect by killing her. After the Joker tries to assassinate Catwoman, Batman tracks him to his hideout in the Sionis Steelmill, suspecting he knows the truth about Protocol 10.
