Summary
Batsugun is a vertical scrolling shooter developed by the now-defunct Japanese studio Toaplan. The name means "exceptional" or "outstanding." It was the last game released before Toaplan's shutdown and is considered a pivotal title in the evolution of the modern manic shooter. Aspects like the player's hitbox size, the intensity of their firepower, and the intricacy of enemy bullet patterns have all left a lasting impact on later games in the genre. Several members of the development team later contributed to other successful manic shooters, with lead artist Junya Inoue being among the most notable.
