Summary
Originally an old-school arcade title and previously available on the PC Engine by Pack In Video, Hudson Soft has revitalized the addictive gameplay of Lode Runner with a fresh graphical overhaul. The core of Lode Runner's action is rooted in puzzles: You're shown a side-scrolling level filled with platforms and ladders, and your mission is to gather all the gold and make your exit before the enemies catch you. To stay safe, you can dig pits in the ground—either left or right—and any enemy that steps into one will tumble down and become trapped. If timed perfectly, the hole will refill before they can climb out, sending them back to a different part of the level. If you'd rather run and hide, ensure the path is clear so you can dash up a ladder or swing across a strategically placed rope, but beware—the enemies will pursue! Once all the gold is collected, sprint to the nearest tall ladder and escape to the top of the screen. In early magazine previews, the game was initially called Lode Runner II.
