You're about to discover exactly what it takes to survive as a young bee with a 9-to-5 gig. Giant spiders, sly ants, and slimy slugs are just a few of the troublemakers ready to block your path when you're Bee 52. But you're not completely helpless—using enough speed, skill, and firepower might just help you make it through the day, even when the odds are stacked against you. Let your nose—or more accurately, your proboscis—guide you to the flowers, and don't let anyone—or anything—stand in your way! Bee 52, you're all set for liftoff! Bee 52 is a side-scrolling video game released by Codemasters for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992. A Commodore 64 version was finished in 1993 but never officially released after Codemasters left the C64 market. After working out a deal with Codemasters, the programmer sold the game directly to customers through mail order.
In the game, the player takes control of Bee 52, a honeybee featuring big eyes and a fly-like mouth that functions as a sucker, enabling it to fire projectiles at foes. The game consists of 12 levels, with the first four set in a backyard, the next four in a swamp, and the final four inside a house. Each level introduces new traps and enemies, including ants, grasshoppers, and later on, dragonflies and venus flytraps. The player must locate and gather nectar from various flowers scattered throughout the side-scrolling levels and return to the hive after visiting three flowers to add honey to the jar. A level is completed when the jar is full; for levels 3 through 12, this means visiting every flower in the level.
