Bleach: Heat the Soul 5 is the fifth title in the Heat the Soul series, inspired by Tite Kubo’s Bleach, and was launched in Japan on May 15th, 2008. Continuing from where the previous Heat the Soul games ended, the story begins with the arrival in Hueco Mundo and the clash between Grimmjow and Ichigo. New additions to the game include a "Tag Action" system and an updated method for releasing zanpakutō. Transformations like Bankai now require filling two reiatsu bars and pressing the L button, instead of pre-selecting a Bankai form before battle. The Tag Action system offers three distinct styles: offensive, defensive, and technical. A new game mode called Tag Master allows players to pick two characters to fight alongside in a sequence of battles, with special moves incorporating the abilities of the tagged partner. The game offers 32 playable characters in Tag Battle mode, and additional characters can be unlocked by transferring a save file from Bleach: Heat the Soul 4. However, these characters are only available in single-player mode and cannot perform in-game transformations. They can be accessed via a separate menu by pressing L or R in the standard character selection screen.
