Summary
Boxing Legends of the Ring is a boxing game created by Sculptured Software and released by Electro Brain.
During matches, players can monitor the boxers' condition by looking at the small portraits of their faces displayed at the top of the screen. As the fighters take damage, these portraits show signs of injury such as cuts and bruises, with the intensity reflecting the fighter's remaining health. A boxing glove-shaped gauge is also located at the top of the screen, showing how much strength a boxer has left in their punches (just like in a real match, the more punches thrown, the more exhausted the boxer becomes, leading to weaker strikes).
The fighters can only move left or right within the ring; they cannot step forward or backward. A range of punches is available, including left jabs, head crosses, body hooks, and head uppercuts (all punches except jabs can be executed with either hand). Players can also perform a limited number of so-called 'super punches,' which are essentially a right cross or right uppercut with increased power. At the beginning of each round, each boxer can use one super punch at any time, and they earn an additional one for every knockdown they land on their opponent. Defensive options include blocking, dodging, and clinching. Each boxer is defined by three stats: 'power,' 'stamina,' and 'chin.'
A special edition titled Chavez II was released in Mexico and the American Southwest, featuring Spanish language text instead of English and omitting certain vocal elements.
