Bubblegum Crash is a PC Engine graphic adventure game inspired by the anime OVA series of the same name. The anime and game take place in the near-future year 2032, where a massive earthquake has divided Tokyo into two parts. Corporations now dominate the nation, and villains are using mass-produced humanoid robots known as "boomers" to carry out criminal activities. The overworked and underfunded police force is unable to keep up, leaving the city vulnerable. The Knight Sabers, an elite all-female mercenary team, serve as the last line of defense, using advanced exosuits called "Hard Suits" to protect the city. The gameplay mirrors that of other adventure titles from the time. Players choose from a set of commands to interact with the environment, such as conversing with non-player characters, collecting and using items from their inventory, and navigating between locations. At any moment, players can observe and listen to gather additional hints. While the commands are presented in English, the narrative and dialogue are entirely in Japanese. The game periodically shifts perspectives, beginning with Nene Romanova and later switching to Priss, Linna, and Sylia at different points in the story.
Inspired by the series, this digital comic-style adventure arrives on PC Engine. As you look into a recent bank heist, you'll quickly discover that the truth is far from obvious. The game uses a point-and-click "digital comic" format, where you collect clues and items, and, uh, let's say "question" anyone who seems even slightly fishy.
