Castlevania: Curse of Darkness continues the story of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. This game introduces several changes from its predecessor, including a more intricate action-adventure gameplay style that incorporates character progression through experience points. Learn and utilize the special abilities of Devil Forgery to create and upgrade Innocent Devils—companions who will assist in defeating foes, avoiding hazards, and overcoming tough puzzles.
In *Dracula's Curse*, Trevor Belmont joined forces with Sypha Belnades, Grant DaNasty, and Alucard to defeat Dracula. *Curse of Darkness* expands on this tale by offering some background. It turns out Dracula had two key lieutenants, Hector and Isaac. These two Generals in Dracula’s army were Devil Forgemasters, capable of creating and controlling familiars, which they could summon and send away as they pleased. According to the tale, Hector somehow betrayed Dracula after disagreeing with his actions, which indirectly led to Trevor Belmont’s victory. Feeling guilty over his treachery, Hector abandoned his craft. But then Isaac, who stayed loyal to Dracula, went so far as to kill Hector’s girlfriend, Rosaly. Fueled by rage, Hector pursues Isaac to the remains of the castle, and the game begins with the player stepping into Hector’s shoes on his path of revenge.
