Summary
Colin McRae Rally and, more recently, Dirt, form a racing video game series developed and published by Codemasters. Colin McRae Rally and Dirt 2 were later adapted and released for Mac OS X by Feral Interactive. Launched in 1998, the franchise has enjoyed both critical acclaim and commercial success, often credited as a trailblazer in the genre of realistic rally racing games. The series is named after the World Rally Championship driver Colin McRae, who contributed technical expertise during its development. Although McRae passed away in September 2007, Codemasters continued to use his name for their rally titles until the launch of Dirt 3, after which the name was no longer used.
