On August 28, 1998, Westwood Studios launched Red Alert Retaliation for the PlayStation, a collection of the two PC expansion packs that featured the hidden Ant Missions. It closely mirrors the PlayStation version of the original Red Alert, but adds new units such as the Tesla Tank, Shock Trooper, Chrono Tank, and Mechanic, along with 105 skirmish maps. The game also features an in-game option known as Soylent Green Mode, where all ore fields are replaced by civilians, and ore trucks harvest them with unsettling sound effects. The release also brought 19 exclusive briefing FMV (full-motion video) clips not found in any PC expansion packs, which previously had none. These videos are shown either when the player begins an operational theatre from the start or after completing all missions in a theatre; otherwise, only text briefings appear. The FMVs feature a general from each faction explaining the mission goals. Allied General Carville later reappears in Red Alert 2, while Soviet General Topolov does not appear again in the Red Alert series.
