Summary
Contra: Legacy of War is a 3D action title published by Konami and crafted by Appaloosa Interactive, initially launched in 1996 for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn. It served as the first of two Contra titles developed externally by Appaloosa, with C: The Contra Adventure following in 1998. The game signified the series' transition to three-dimensional visuals and sparked debate with its altered gameplay mechanics. Legacy of War came with a set of 3D anaglyph glasses, which the game utilized for its 3D effect. It is notable for being the first console entry in the series to keep the Contra name and feature human characters in its European and Australian releases (where the console series had previously been branded as Probotector from the original NES title through to Contra: Hard Corps). The game was also planned for a Japanese release, but that was ultimately scrapped.
