Summary

The player takes control of an armored combat vehicle, switching between first-person and third-person views depending on the level's layout. Every game starts on the surface of a planet with a top-down perspective. Once the player enters a tunnel, the camera shifts to first-person. After defeating the Life Core within the tunnel, the player moves to a new planet via a vertically scrolling sequence. Cosmo Tank features three different game modes. In Quest Mode, the goal is to destroy Alien Life Cores on five planets to liberate them from Master Insect. Players can gain experience levels in this mode by defeating enemies. The highest possible experience points total is 999, enabling players to reach the maximum level of 6. Training Mode lets players practice in a confined area and receive a performance ranking. In Vs. Mode, the Game Link Cable is used to let two players compete to defeat the alien leader. After completing the game or receiving a game over, the player is awarded a rank that reflects how far they progressed and their final score. The lowest rank in the game is a skull and crossbones, symbolizing a battlefield casualty.
