CrossFire is a first-person shooter where two rival mercenary groups, the "Black List" and "Global Risk," engage in a high-stakes battle across the globe. Players take on the role of a mercenary from either faction and join an online team to complete mission-based objectives. With the exception of Zombie and Wave modes, most game modes support up to 16 players, split into two teams of 8 (or 5 in Wave mode). The game offers over ten online game modes: Team Death Match, Search and Destroy, Elimination Match, Ghost Mode, Free-For-All, Mutation Mode, Escape Mode, Hero Mode, Hero Mode X, Zombie Mode, Elite Mode, Wave Mode, Shadow Mode, Biochemical Knight Mode, Ghosts vs Mutants, RPG/Melee Mode, Soccer Mode, Light Mode, and Super Soldiers TD. Based on in-game performance, players earn experience points and advance through a series of Military Ranks. The lowest rank is Trainee First Class, while the highest is Marshall. Players can also personalize their character's gear and look using the in-game shop and the Mall on the official website. CrossFire is free to download and play online. It features a virtual currency called Game Points (GP), which can be earned by playing and finishing matches, purchasing premium items that give bonus GP, or completing specific missions. Certain premium and exclusive items, such as modified weapons, can only be bought with points acquired through real-money purchases via cards or online payments. The name and availability of these points may differ depending on the game version.
