Summary
Virtual-On follows a format similar to a Versus-style fighting game, where two Virtuaroids—mechanized units—clash on a battlefield. Players utilize an array of weapons, including guns, explosives, close-combat tools, and other tactics to defeat their opponent over a series of rounds. Matches are typically one-on-one or best of three, much like traditional fighting games. The game is designed for a dual-stick control configuration, referred to as twin-sticks. Each stick features a trigger and a button located at the top.
Storyline
Set in a bleak future where Earth is ruled by corporate syndicates, the game follows a world where people seek freedom by establishing colonies on other planets. On one such colony, a powerful technology from an extinct civilization is uncovered. The corporate syndicate DN reverse-engineers this technology to create combat machines known as Virtuaroids. During testing, the central computer at the facility gains self-awareness and launches the Sun Cannon to annihilate human civilization. DN deploys their elite agents to command multiple Virtuaroids in an effort to stop the rogue AI and prevent global destruction.
