Darius Twin is a scrolling shooter video game launched for the Super NES in 1991. It marked the first new entry in the Darius series that wasn't initially created for arcade machines, and it was also the first to feature a standard 4:3 aspect ratio. Notably, although it stands out as a distinct title in the series, it seems to repurpose sprites and background artwork from Darius and Darius II. Additionally, while the boss names are new, most of them are essentially reworked versions of earlier adversaries.
Long ago, in an age lost to time, the serene young world of Darius was attacked by a ruthless horde of interstellar marauders led by the galactic overlord, Belser. The gentle Dariusites had no defense against such an assault and were swiftly overwhelmed. But before the entire planet fell under Belser’s rule, a courageous pair, Proco and Tiat, rallied a resistance and guided many of their people to safety in unclaimed regions of space. As the centuries rolled on, the descendants of this brave resistance flourished and spread across the stars. On the resource-rich world of Orga, they founded the Galactic Federation, a coalition uniting all the peaceful planets of the galaxy. A thousand years later, Belser’s forces once again sought to expand their dominion, launching a campaign to reclaim the worlds their enemies had escaped to. With relentless ambition, they conquered more and more planets, pushing ever outward. Inspired by the heroic tales of Proco and Tiat, two of the Federation’s finest pilots prepare to take to the stars for a decisive confrontation. Their ships, cutting-edge war machines known as Silver Hawks, are capable of converting energy into devastating weaponry. Your task is to command a Silver Hawk, battle Belser’s legions on every planet along your path, and ultimately reach Darius to destroy the mighty Alloylantern, the mechanical citadel from which all of Belser’s power originates. Though Belser’s homeworld remains a mystery, leading experts speculate it was once a vast ocean world, as all of his technology mimics the forms of sea creatures.
