Dead to Rights II is a third-person action video game created by Widescreen Games and published by Namco in 2005. It serves as a prequel to Dead to Rights. A follow-up prequel for the PlayStation Portable, named Dead to Rights: Reckoning, came out in June 2005.
A respected judge, Alfred McGuffin, uncovers a massive criminal operation within the city and is taken hostage. Having been a close friend of Jack's father, the cop feels compelled to send hundreds of criminals to their deaths to set things right. Chaos erupts quickly, forcing Jack and his loyal K-9 partner, Shadow, to confront a ruthless mob in a desperate battle to stop the city's descent into treachery and decay. In the end, Judge McGuffin is killed, and while Jack manages to kill the murderer, henchmen of a top Russian crime boss named Blanchov seize the judge's documents. Jack's girlfriend, Ruby, is also murdered by Blanchov. Though Jack never recovers the files (which were likely Hennesey's from the first game), he seeks vengeance against Blanchov. Jack succeeds in killing him, but finds no peace, knowing Blanchov was just a high-ranking pawn easily replaced. With Ruby gone and the files lost, Jack feels he has nothing left. He also claims that whoever has the files now has him "Dead to Rights," leaving him with nothing to live for.
