Storyline

Francis York Morgan delves into the murder of 18-year-old Anna Graham in the small town of Greenvale, Washington, in the United States. He becomes involved because of the nature of the killing: a ritualistic slaying of a young woman, with red seeds discovered on or near the body, matching a pattern of similar murders across the country. York's aloofness toward the townspeople, his eccentric behavior, and his habit of breaking off conversations to speak cryptically to someone called "Zach" create tension. He is aided by Sheriff George Woodman, a man haunted by a history of childhood trauma; Deputy Sheriff Emily Wyatt, who develops a romantic connection with York; and Thomas MacLaine, George's timid aide. Meanwhile, York is frequently set upon by the Raincoat Killer, a figure from local legend who only strikes when it rains.
