Summary
In Desert Bus, the player operates a bus on a straight path connecting Tucson, Arizona, to Las Vegas. The road is empty, with only lifeless trees and shrubs visible in the background. The player can stop at intermittent bus stops to open the doors, though no passengers will board. With a maximum speed of 45 miles per hour (72 km/h) and a total distance of 360 miles (580 km), a single trip takes eight hours of real time. The bus constantly drifts to the right, forcing the player to make constant corrections, and the game does not allow pausing. Successfully completing the journey between the two cities earns the player one point and the chance to reverse direction and make the trip back. If the player drives off the road, the bus becomes stuck in the sand, overheats, and must be towed back to the last stop, again in real time.
