Summary
Devil Dice is a distinctive puzzle game in which players guide a tiny devil across a grid filled with oversized dice. The player can stand either on top of the dice or on the ground beneath them, with the dice looming overhead. While on a die, the player can move to adjacent dice or roll the die in the direction they run, causing it to rotate and display a new face. Forming a cluster of connected dice with matching pips—where the number of dice is at least equal to the number of pips—causes the dice to gradually sink into the field before vanishing. Players can trigger chain reactions by adding more dice to an already sinking group. Some game modes introduce special types of dice with unique traits, increasing the challenge.
Originally developed by Shift for the "homebrew" Yaroze platform, the game was later released as a commercial title. Launched in 1998, it is among the few titles to transition from Yaroze development to a full commercial release. A million copies were sold, and a demo version was made available as part of the PlayStation Classic lineup for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable on November 7, 2007.
