Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II follows the original Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei. Released by Namco in 1990 for the Family Computer, it is the second entry in the Megami Tensei series. This title marks the first time a game in the series does not adapt Aya Nishitani's original novels, though it keeps many of the gameplay elements from its predecessor. The game's soundtrack is enriched by the eight-channel Namco 163 WSG sound chip included in the cartridge.
In the year 199X, the world was shattered by a relentless missile attack, forcing the survivors into underground shelters. It's now 2036, and two friends are playing the video game *Devil Busters* in Keihin Shelter No. 3. Right after they defeat the first boss, they accidentally release Pazuzu. The demon hands them the Demon Summoning Program, intending for it to be used in the battle against Bael, while also issuing a warning about an approaching threat. Soon after, demons start attacking the shelter, and the two friends must rise to defend what's left of humanity.
