Summary
Doom is a science fiction first-person shooter game created by id Software and Nerve Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. It serves as a modernized version of the original 1993 Doom, utilizing the Unity engine as a wrapper for the id Tech 1 engine.
This title, along with Doom II Classic, was first introduced as part of a collection of classic Doom ports for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. However, the ports initially faced strong criticism for their low quality and inaccuracies compared to earlier console versions, as well as the inclusion of an always-online DRM system that required players to log in to a Bethesda.net account—intended for unlocking Slayers Club rewards—despite the games lacking any online multiplayer functionality.
In response to the backlash, Nerve Software addressed the login requirements and other port-related issues through a series of patches. A PC version of Doom Classic was made available via Bethesda.net on January 9, 2020, and was later released on Steam on September 3, 2020, as a free update for owners of The Ultimate Doom.
