Dragon Ball: Daimaō Fukkatsu is a role-playing video game that was released exclusively in Japan by Bandai on August 12, 1988. It marks the second Dragon Ball game to be released for the Nintendo Famicom. This title was the first role-playing game in the Dragon Ball franchise. Its gameplay mechanics were later adapted in the Goku-den video game series. Daimaō Fukkatsu is also featured as one of the games in the compilation title J League Retsuden for the Nintendo 3DS.
Daimaō Fukkatsu is set during the King Piccolo Saga, but with a twist—instead of perishing at the World Martial Arts Tournament, Krillin is killed at Kame House, marking the start of the adventure. After a battle with Tambourine, Goku travels to West City to retrieve the Dragon Radar from Bulma, then heads to the Southern Transformation Kindergarten to locate Oolong and Puar. After fending off the demons who have taken over his friends’ spots at the school, Goku makes his way to Jingle Village in search of the Dragon Balls. He encounters Android 8 at Muscle Tower, defeats the Pilaf Gang who are also after the Dragon Balls, and secures the Two-Star Ball. After obtaining a submarine at Kame House, Goku and his companions journey to the Pirate Cave, where he battles the demon Banjo and finds the Three-Star Ball, only for it to be taken by Mercenary Tao. After besting Tao in the Pirate Cave, Goku visits Fortuneteller Baba, who reveals the locations of two Dragon Balls inside Pilaf's Castle. Goku once again defeats the Pilaf Machine and retrieves the Six-Star and Four-Star Balls from within the castle. He then travels to the Sacred Land of Korin, where he meets members of the Crane School, as well as Bora and Upa, defeats Master Shen, acquires the Seven-Star Ball, and meets Korin atop Korin Tower. At Penguin Village, Goku meets Arale Norimaki, Gatchan, Senbei Norimaki, and Yajirobe. He defeats Monster Carrot at Penguin Village High School, the demon Cymbal, and the alien Synthesizer, and locates the One-Star and Five-Star Balls. With all seven Dragon Balls in hand, Goku summons Shenron to create a path to the Remote Land of Konpei, where he meets Lord Konpei, who opens the way to Piccolo's Mansion. Inside Piccolo's Mansion, Goku confronts Organ and defeats Drum, meets the ghost of Krillin, and ultimately destroys the mansion. Finally, Goku journeys to the Dark Castle and defeats King Piccolo. The game concludes with an NBS News broadcast announcing the end of King Piccolo.
