Dragon Ball Z: Goku Gekitōden is set right after Goku's showdown with Vegeta and culminates in his ultimate fight against Frieza—much like the 1991 title Dragon Ball Z II: Gekishin Freeza. During the story mode, players can battle most characters from the Namek Saga, including Zarbon and the various forms of Frieza. The game includes five playable fighters and introduces Goku's Super Saiyan transformation. Unlike its previous version, Goku Gekitōden uses real-time movement and combat. Additional content such as minigames and a tournament mode are also included in the game.
