Summary
Dragon Quest V employs the fundamental role-playing game mechanics found throughout the series, such as gaining experience points from battles to level up, turn-based combat from a first-person perspective, and the use of weapons and armor. A new addition to the Dragon Quest series in this installment is the ability to tame monsters and add them to the player's party. These tamed creatures can participate in battles and level up just like the human characters. Occasionally, after a battle, monsters may ask to join the Hero's party, provided the group is strong enough. In total, 71 different monsters can potentially become part of the Hero's team.
