You’ve been informed by a messenger that the Last Dragon has been taken captive. In your hands, you hold a scroll detailing that you must journey alongside a unique ally named Hawkwind. Only together can you rescue the Last Dragon before it’s lost to darkness forever.
Amsel! Hurry, I need your help. I've been poisoned and taken prisoner by the Duke of Darkness. I'm trapped in the heart of the Southland. My life is in danger. Only you and your companion, Hawkwind, can save me. - The Last Dragon. Thankfully, there is the Dragonpearl. Without it, the Last Dragon would never have been able to send his plea to Amsel. The Dragonpearl is a powerful artifact, capable of revealing the past and glimpsing the future. Not long after Amsel read the desperate message from the Last Dragon, the mist within the Dragonpearl began to clear. At first, Amsel thought the vision had ended. Then, a sequence of strange and unfamiliar images appeared in the pearl’s mist. Amsel saw Tasran the tailor at his loom. He saw the Duke of Darkness. Thalos the Armorer. And Prince Alyn. Who were these individuals? Where did they come from? And with the urgent call to aid the Last Dragon, what did it all mean? Amsel sat, his hands resting in his lap. So much had already transpired. He needed to gather his thoughts. He needed to make sense of the past. Perhaps it would guide him in the future. And so, he began to write in his journal: I am deeply grateful for this notebook, for without it I would not be able to record the recent events of my life. A life that until recently was guided by the pursuit of science and the study of nature and its laws. That has all changed. In fact, I have changed. I have learned much about life and the nature of things. I have discovered that there is no stronger connection than the one forged through shared struggle in times of crisis. And it is this unique bond that unites Hawkwind, the Last Dragon, and me. We are brothers for life. And here is the story of how that friendship was born: One day, while I was distracted, a young friend of mine borrowed my Flying Wing. While in the air, Johan was attacked by a dragon-like beast known as a coldrake. Johan’s father immediately blamed the people of Simbala for his son’s death. Without hesitation, the elders of Fandora declared war on Simbala: a war for which I felt personally responsible. For it was careless of me to leave my wing where a child's curiosity could lead to disaster. At the same time, a young girl had been killed in Simbala. Tensions between the two nations grew. War seemed inevitable. I had to do everything I could to prevent this tragedy. I set out for Simbala. Once there, I met one of the wisest men I have ever known. A man who was equally at home with rulers and warriors. His name was Hawkwind, and he was the leader of Simbala. He did not inherit his position, but earned it through hard work and the trust of his people. He had once been a simple miner. Perhaps that was why he was so humble. He was strong when leadership was required, yet gentle when compassion was needed. Working as brothers in search of the truth, Hawkwind and I examined the situation. The coldrakes had attacked children from both of our lands. There had to be a reason. We agreed that the answer could only be found by seeking out the legendary Last Dragon and persuading him to help us. According to legend, the Last Dragon still lived in the Northland. He was the cousin and master of the coldrakes. They would obey his commands. But first, we had to find him. And so, aboard a Simbalan Windship, I sailed north across the Dragonsea. After many trials, I was ready to give up. Then, almost by chance, I discovered the Last Dragon. Deep within the hollow of a cold and lonely cave, the Last Dragon lay bound to a rock. He was a pitiful sight. A look of defeat seemed etched into his face. He spoke in a deep and solemn whisper. He was ancient. Very ancient. He had been bound to this rock by wicked men who had stolen the mystical Dragonpearls. He described his plight with a resigned and emotionless tone. But I saw something in him that was proud, genuine, and kind. For a moment, I thought of how I had found those same qualities in Hawkwind. Indeed, Hawkwind and the Dragon were alike. Together, the three of us could end the bloodshed. I had to convince the Last Dragon to help me, if it was the last thing I did. I told him of my young friend's death. And how the coldrakes had attacked me on my journey north. He became enraged, for according to his orders, the coldrakes were never to attack. His pride would not allow him to remain idle while they defied his will. He agreed to help. We flew to Simbala and found the coldrakes poised and ready to attack the ships of both nations. The Last Dragon prepared to battle the leader of the coldrakes. And when it was over, the Last Dragon emerged victorious. He looked at Hawkwind and me, and at that moment we all understood. No words were spoken. Yet we knew we would be brothers for life. I have returned to Fandora with the glowing Dragonpearl. Deep in its misty chambers, a message from the Last Dragon has appeared. He has been poisoned and captured and is being held in the Southland of Simbala. There are other images as well. Images I have never seen before. The Dragon trying to warn me. Who are these people in the Dragonpearl? Are they allies or enemies? I do not know. I only know what I must do: Find Hawkwind and together we must rescue the Last Dragon. For we are brothers until death. I only hope we are not too late.
