Drakensang is a third-person, party-driven RPG that uses the pen-and-paper mechanics of The Dark Eye. It marks the first PC game in more than a decade to be built on Germany’s most beloved and widely played tabletop role-playing system. Drakensang is based on the ruleset of version 4.0 and has been refined by the developers to suit the PC platform, making the game easier to approach. However, the core strengths and complexity of the original system remain intact.
The protagonist receives a letter requesting help from an old acquaintance named Ardo, who now resides in Ferdok. Along the journey, the character stops at the village of Avestrue and discovers that the testimonies of two prominent individuals are required to enter the city. Here, the character meets Rhulana the amazon and Dranor the thief. Upon arriving in Ferdok, the character learns why access is restricted. The city has recently been gripped by a string of horrifying deaths, and Ardo is among the victims. This marks the start of an in-depth investigation to uncover the links and halt the killings. The murders are ultimately revealed to be the work of the Dragon Cultists, an ancient sect devoted to Ardakor, a long-forgotten malevolent dragon.
