Summary
Dustin is an "Escape from Alcatraz"-style game for the Sinclair Spectrum. The player takes on the role of a prisoner attempting to break out of jail and flee the island. To accomplish this, the player must fight off guards and gather, steal, or trade for various items across the prison. The interface includes 8 inventory slots, an alert meter indicating how close the guards are to the prisoner, a clock showing the time of day, and an energy meter. Dustin features a lot of point-and-click adventure-style gameplay that relies on trial and error, as the prisoner must collect items in a specific sequence and use them in the correct locations. One challenge of the game is figuring out where to go within the prison, as many of the screens look nearly identical. Dustin is an early example of titles similar to The Great Escape and is part of the broader tradition of prison-escape themed games.
