ESPN Speed World is a general racing game designed to mirror the style of NASCAR. The player starts with a stock car and can customize it from the spoiler's angle to the shock settings and even the tire pressure. The game features three distinct types of speedways: Super Speedway, Short Track, and Road Courses, with five unique tracks available in each category. Players can compete against the computer, which controls the remaining 23 stock cars on the track, or go one-on-one with a friend using split-screen mode.
