Summary

Eternal Sonata is a role-playing video game created by tri-Crescendo and released by Namco Bandai Games. The narrative revolves around the Polish romantic composer and pianist Frédéric Chopin, who succumbed to tuberculosis at 39 years old. The story imagines a dream world Chopin envisions during his final moments, shaped by his life and music, with Chopin himself as one of the playable characters. The combat system is built around musical themes and features unique special moves for each character. The forces of light and darkness influence enemy appearances, abilities, and the kinds of magic available in battle. The soundtrack includes several of Chopin's works performed by pianist Stanislav Bunin, while the original music was composed and arranged by Motoi Sakuraba. The game is known for its use of classical piano music, educational scenes that showcase real paintings and photographs (contrasting with the game's cel-shaded visuals), and richly detailed environments.
