Storyline

Set over 21,000 years into the future, the lore of *Eve Online* tells the tale of humanity, which, after depleting Earth's resources through centuries of rapid population growth, began to spread across the Milky Way. As on Earth, this expansion led to conflict and competition for resources, but everything changed with the discovery of a natural wormhole leading to an uncharted galaxy later named "New Eden." Dozens of colonies were established, and a gate—marked with the inscription "EVE" on the New Eden side—was constructed to stabilize the wormhole, connecting the New Eden colonies to the rest of human civilization. However, the wormhole unexpectedly collapsed, destroying the gate and severing the link between New Eden and the Milky Way. Isolated from Earth and cut off from supplies, the New Eden colonies faced starvation and disconnection, with many collapsing entirely. Over the millennia, the descendants of the surviving colonists rebuilt their societies, but by then, all memory and knowledge of Earth, the Milky Way, and the colonization of New Eden had been lost. The little that remained was distorted, misinterpreted, or turned into myth. From the surviving colonies, five distinct societies emerged, each evolving into a spacefaring civilization. These societies form the five major factions in *Eve Online*: the Amarr Empire, the Caldari State, the Gallente Federation, the Minmatar Republic, and the Jove Directorate.
