Summary
FarmVille is a social networking farming simulation game created by Zynga in 2009. It shares similarities with titles like Happy Farm, Farm Town, and the Story of Seasons video game series. The game's mechanics revolve around various elements of farm management, including tilling soil, planting and harvesting crops, cutting down trees, and raising animals. FarmVille was accessible as an Adobe Flash-based game on Facebook and Microsoft's MSN Games. It was also briefly available as a mobile app for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad in 2010. The game is free to play, but to speed up progress, players are prompted to use in-game currency such as Farm Cash (in FarmVille) or Farm Bucks (in FarmVille 2), which can be bought with real money, or to seek assistance from their friends. Following its 2009 Facebook launch, FarmVille quickly became the site's most popular game, maintaining that status for more than two years. However, after 2011, the game started to lose its appeal. By May 2012, it had dropped to the seventh most popular game on Facebook. As of July 12, 2014, its popularity had further declined, placing it at 73rd in terms of Daily Active Users.
