Fatal Inertia is a futuristic hovercar racing game developed by Koei. Initially a PlayStation 3 exclusive, it was later made available on the Xbox 360 in 2007. The PlayStation 3 version was released as a PlayStation Network download under the title Fatal Inertia EX on May 29, 2008 in Japan, June 19, 2008 in North America, and July 15, 2008 in Europe. The PlayStation 3 launch was postponed due to challenges in adapting the Unreal Engine 3 to the console's cell processor architecture. The game is set in the mid-22nd century on Earth, where a few massive corporations dominate nearly all aspects of business, politics, and entertainment. High-risk extreme sports have become a major form of entertainment, with Fatal Inertia being the most popular. Races are held far from urban areas because of the extreme danger involved. The game features six distinct racing environments, each containing a total of fifty-one tracks.
