Fate/Extra is a dungeon-crawling Japanese role-playing game set in a parallel world to the visual novel Fate/stay night. At the beginning, players can choose to play as a male or female protagonist and pick one of three Servants — Saber, Archer, or Caster — each with unique abilities and drawbacks. Over the course of an in-game "week," players interact with other characters, watch story scenes, converse with their Servant in their private room, and uncover hints about the identity of the opposing Servant. Each day ends with a trip to the Arena, a dungeon where players fight monsters to earn experience and enhance their Servant's strength. The game's turn-based combat system functions similarly to rock-paper-scissors: "Attack" beats "Break," "Break" beats "Guard," and "Guard" beats "Attack." In battle, both the player and the enemy arrange six of these moves at the start of each turn.
