Summary
Fighter's History is a 1993 arcade brawler created and released by Data East. It marks the beginning of the Fighter's History franchise. The game's standout feature is its weak point system, which lets players temporarily incapacitate opponents by targeting and striking their specific weak points. The game gained notoriety due to a legal battle between Data East and Capcom, who accused Data East of copying elements from their popular title, Street Fighter II, thereby infringing on their copyright. However, the court ruled in favor of Data East, stating that the similarities were based on scenes a faire—common elements essential to the genre. The game was later brought to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994 and followed up with a sequel, Karnov's Revenge, for the Neo Geo platform. Three distinct gameplay modes are available. CPU Battle is the standard arcade mode where players choose a fighter and progress through the game by defeating all opponents. In Survival Mode, players pick a team of five characters to battle against another team. Lastly, Versus Mode allows players to challenge their friends in one-on-one combat.
