Storyline

In *Final Fantasy II*, the story begins with Firion, Maria, Guy, and Leon ambushed by Palamecian Black Knights and left for dead. Firion, Maria, and Guy are saved by Princess Hilda, who has set up a rebel stronghold in the town of Altair after her kingdom, Fynn, was overrun by the Emperor. Hilda refuses their offer to join the rebel forces, citing their youth and lack of experience. Undeterred, the trio travels to Fynn in search of Leon, where they discover the dying Prince Scott of Kas'ion, Hilda’s betrothed. He reveals that Borghen, a former noble from Kas'ion, has turned traitor and now serves as a General in the Imperial army. The group returns to Altair to share the news. Convinced by their determination, Hilda lets them join the rebellion and tasks them with heading north to find mythril, a rare metal capable of forging powerful weapons. They journey to the occupied village of Salamand, free the villagers forced into labor in the mines, defeat Borghen, and secure the mythril. Their next assignment takes them to the city of Bafsk to stop the construction of a massive airship called the Dreadnought. But the ship departs just as they arrive. After obtaining the Sunfire, a weapon capable of destroying the Dreadnought, they witness in horror as Hilda is captured by the airship. When the Dreadnought lands to resupply, the party rescues Hilda and hurls the Sunfire into the ship’s engine. As they flee the resulting explosion, they encounter a mysterious dark knight whom Maria believes is Leon.
