Storyline

Final Fantasy V opens on a day when the world’s wind currents begin to slow and grow stagnant. Deeply unsettled by this phenomenon, the ruler of Tycoon prepares to journey to the Wind Shrine atop his drake, calming the fears of his daughter, Princess Lenna. Upon reaching the Shrine, the king watches in horror as the Wind Crystal shatters before his eyes. At the same time, a wandering adventurer named Bartz, resting in the forest near Tycoon, sees a meteorite crash into the earth just beyond the castle walls. Bartz quickly investigates and finds Lenna unconscious after an attack. After saving her, they come across an elderly man among the wreckage suffering from partial memory loss—Galuf. Lenna reveals she had been heading to the Wind Shrine to find her father. Galuf, too, suddenly remembers that the Shrine was his intended destination, and decides to join her. Though the three briefly separate, Bartz soon runs into Lenna and Galuf again, this time under attack by monsters in a trembling valley. The trio reunites and travels together, only to find all land paths blocked by the chaos caused by the meteorite’s impact. Exploring a cave, they run into a band of pirates and their leader, Faris. With Faris’s assistance, the group reaches the Wind Shrine, where they find the broken Crystal but no trace of the missing king. However, the shards respond to their presence, projecting an image of Tycoon that tells them their mission is to protect the Crystals that still remain.
