Summary
Final Fantasy XI R was a mobile adaptation of the 2002 MMORPG Final Fantasy XI. First revealed in 2015, its anticipated 2016 release passed without any updates on the game's progress. For years, it remained on Nexon's list of upcoming titles, though little information was shared beyond some leaked images in 2018. By late 2020, speculation arose that the project had been scrapped, and it was soon removed from Nexon's lineup of future games. In early 2021, an official statement confirmed the cancellation. As reported by IGN, Nexon and Square Enix stated that the mobile version "did not meet the creative standards Final Fantasy fans have come to expect from the series."
