Fūraiki is a visual novel that combines realistic photographic backgrounds with anime-style character illustrations. The protagonist is a travel blogger and photographer who journeys to Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island, to chronicle his experiences for his blog. During the voyage to the island, he meets several young girls who are also heading there, and you'll have more chances to interact with them throughout the game's main story.
The core of the gameplay revolves around riding a motorcycle across Hokkaido, stopping at any destination the player chooses to take photos or simply take in the stunning landscapes of Japan's coldest and least populated region. Although you'll frequently come across other people during your journey—whether locals or the girls you met on the boat—interacting with them isn't required to fully enjoy the experience. The game spans the course of a month, and at the end of each in-game day, the player can set up camp and write a blog entry about a place they've visited, including photos they've taken. You'll also see comments on your posts and receive emails from the girls telling you where they'll be, allowing you to meet up with them if you choose. When you do meet the girls, they often join you as you explore a specific area, giving you the chance to capture unique photos of them set against the scenery. All the background settings are real-life photographs, with the characters seamlessly integrated into the environment where appropriate.
