Gaia no Monshō, also referred to as the *Crest of Gaia*, is a fantasy turn-based strategy game developed by NCS. It is an adaptation of a title originally launched for the NEC PC-8801 in 1987. At its core, Gaia no Monshō is a strategy game where players command troops on a battlefield, moving them into position and attacking nearby enemy forces. An Auto Battle feature is also included, allowing the AI to take over and determine the player's next action. The game features multiple play styles—Scenario Mode lets players dive directly into pre-set battles with ready-made armies. Construction Mode gives players the freedom to build their own forces using unit points. The final mode, Campaign Mode, follows a story-driven narrative that begins in the besieged town of Dirl, where King Sieghart faces off against the ruthless Böser. This mode demands deeper strategic planning, as players must create their own armies with unit points and cannot recover units lost in combat. Unlike the other modes, Campaign Mode includes a password system to save progress throughout the game.
The Light and Dark factions are locked in a brutal conflict, and Böser, commander of the Dark Army, is now poised to seize the Rall Tower, the world's primary energy source. Sieghart, the leader of the Light forces, is the sole barrier preventing Böser from bringing total destruction upon the kingdom.
