Godzilla is a strategic game where you take control of the military in an effort to stop Godzilla before he reaches and destroys Tokyo. If Godzilla makes it to Tokyo, you lose. The game takes place on a large grid that covers Japan and the surrounding waters. There are 25 total grids, with 7 representing Japan and one specifically marking Tokyo. Godzilla starts in a random grid, but never the one containing Tokyo. You can choose to either attack Godzilla or move your forces. You have the option to launch a land, sea, or air assault, fire a missile, or use an atom bomb. When selecting land, sea, or air attacks, you must decide how many units—soldiers, boats, or jets—to deploy, limited by the number available in Godzilla’s current grid. You can also move troops and ships between grids without attacking. After each attack, the game shows how many of your units were destroyed and the effectiveness of the strike (for example, a sea attack will reveal how many boats were lost). Following your move, Godzilla will shift to a new grid. If he’s on land, he will go on a rampage, and the game will show how many civilians are killed. The atom bomb is the most devastating weapon in the game. When deployed, it obliterates all life and equipment in the surrounding eight squares. If the bomb detonates near Tokyo, the game ends immediately.
